Sled pull @ the Buck in PA

Here is a link to a video from couple of friends of mine. Wayne has the big Black D-Max. He took 1st place with a pull of 332 ft.

Enjoy.

Sweet looking plumes.

I like the "Oh, Marty... what'd you do?" Looks like Marty was getting some wheel hop or axle wrap or something...

Yea, the commentary is funny sometimes. They didn't mention him breaking anything, but I'm told that if it starts hopping, you are better off shutting it down and take your lumps. Some guys drive through it, some make it, some break something. I think input shafts are popular items to break.

Isn't that the shaft running from the rear gearing out to the wheels? I guess the hopping causes a lot of slapping in the rear gears. Traction bars are supposed to help with that.

I know that on lifted trucks that the long leaf springs will actually allow the axle to "wrap" when a lot of torque is applied. I would imagine that the same thing can happen to a sled puller, although I am guessing that they use extremely stiff springs to try and support the weight and keep the axle from trying to wrap. Of course, I am talking out of my ear because I don't actually know. ..

Me neither really. I'm learning as I go. I believe they put solid links in to keep the axles aligned, but beyond that, I'm still learning.

Now that brings back some memories.....I used to live in Lanc, PA and we used to spend our Friday nights at the Buck. They would have demolition derby's and 'car football' and sometimes even a motorocycle jump or something.

You're making me home-sick.....

Sorry, I'm hoping to start posting a bunch of local events for people to find in their internet searches.
