Sierra Nevadas – Heaven on Earth….

Of all my travels throughout North America for the past 3-4 decades, I was never to have found a place so far (except the adjoining Mojave Desert) that I thought was as beautiful as the Sierra Nevadas. Running the length of California, dividing it with next-door Nevada, the Sierra Nevadas contain Pine Forests as far as the eye can see, and snow capped mountain ranges that would rival any travel brochures to be found anywhere. While hardly the highest elevations present there, there are mountain passes which easily exceed the 10,000-foot elevation mark. I certainly never had any problem managing to foul the spark plugs on my conventional carburetor equipped Harleys over the years, when passing the summits.

This is an absolutely amazing picture. I don't know what it is about it, but I can't stop looking at the thing. Eventually we will do a website calendar with pictures and I would like this one to be in it.

The picture doesn't even remotely do the area justice. I'm saying this was taken about mid 1983 - probably entered from Fresno. About 100+ degrees on the Desert floor then ride up about 10-20 miles into the Sierras and the temp drops to 60 or less, in July! Always snow on the roadsides up there too, but roads are usually clear. I spent a considerable amount of time riding both the Sierra Nevadas and ajoining Mojave Desert, my favorite places on earth- pity both have to be in 'California' though (sigh.....). Been 18 years now since I've been back. Nuff' said.
