Of all my travels throughout North America for the past 3-4 decades, I was never to have found a place so far (except the adjoining Mojave Desert) that I thought was as beautiful as the Sierra Nevadas. Running the length of California, dividing it with next-door Nevada, the Sierra Nevadas contain Pine Forests as far as the eye can see, and snow capped mountain ranges that would rival any travel brochures to be found anywhere. While hardly the highest elevations present there, there are mountain passes which easily exceed the 10,000-foot elevation mark. I certainly never had any problem managing to foul the spark plugs on my conventional carburetor equipped Harleys over the years, when passing the summits.
