BLAST FROM THE PAST: 1976 Suzuki GT750A LeMans

I had bought this ride brand new back in early 1976 (or perhaps 1975, not sure), the first (back then) 'big bike' I had ever owned. The machine was a 3 cylinder, water-cooled 2-stroke engine with CV carbs, and (unusual then) dual front disc brakes. This bike probably ranks as some of the ones look back with fondest memories of. It was the equivalent of a luxury cruiser to me then with it smooth and easy performance. Actually was the first bike I had with a RELIABLE electric starter quite frankly! ;-) Unfortunately though back then I still hadn't learned the consequences of riding too fast. April 2nd, 1977 I had just passed a Porsche on a secondary road clipping along at a 100+ when the bike went into a speed wobble and just tossed me to the ground. Needless to say the bike pretty much destroyed itself and I looked like a piece of ground beef (but lived and healed to tell the tale). I doubt much I've been much over 70 mph since that day - what can I say?! ;-) Despite everything though - I often times still miss this old 'Ring-Dinger'. It was (overall) a very nice bike that did everything a modern machine did but with a fraction of the (internal) parts. U.S. Emission Standards pretty much killed these all off by 1978. Footnote: Is a 'cheat' to have in here a factory 'stock' pic rather then your own? Maybe but it's just one of those ironies: Despite all the time I owned this exact same bike, I don't have one single decent pic of it! Just goes to show I did spend a lot more time actually riding THIS one rather then taking pix of it! ;-)
