| Spider Interwebby Thingy | Handling, Horsepower, and Looks Game You have 100 points to assign to these three characteristics of a motorcycle that you want built. The more points you assign, the more emphasis is placed on that characteristic. Your total points must be 100. One of these items must take up at least 75 points, and the last two cannot tie. Once you have assigned points to all three items, explain.

| Super Moderator | My point assignments: 75 for Handling 20 Horsepower 05 for Looks Handling: I want a bike that can take anything I'm comfortable throwing at it. I had better handle better than I can ride it. Horsepower: I want a bike that can be used in commuting, racing, weekend trips, whatever I want to do and do fast.. It's got to have horsepower to play with. But doesn't have to be the fastest bike around to do it. Looks: I'm a firm believer in customizing. If it don't look good, I'll make it unique and customize it too my taste. I'm the rider, I don't really care what others think of it. It's for me to enjoy... |

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | I am going to go: 80 for handling 5 for horsepower 15 for looks I am reducing hp because most modern bikes have more than enough for me, and I want a bike that handles really well and gives me lots of usable feedback. 15 for looks because I am a little vain. ![]()

| 60% handling 25% horsepower 15% looks As a matter of safety, if nothing else, I choose handling as my most important characteristic. A sluggish handling bike becomes a liability on twisties due to a lack of turning response time. The heavier the front end of the bike, the front end is harder to control. Larger tires make for a great ride on the hi-way but smaller tires and lighter front ends increases the turning response of the bike. If a situation develops while traveling along interstate, (i.e.getting boxed in) extra horsepower provides the opportunity to get out of potential danger by accelerating and getting clear of the "barriers". Nobody likes to ride a dog! I like my bike to be nice looking, not worn and drab looking. It may be an old bike but it should look crisp and clean. CD

| 75% Serviceability 20% Reliability 05% Form/Function =100% Total These are not exactly the portions I would choose myself, preferring a balance of the three though admittedly ‘Serviceability’ would remain my top priority. Ultimately I am responsible for seemingly everything and anything that goes wrong in this particular house. And as the technology continues to go up (and my physical dexterity goes steadily down) I am quite frankly less and less able to deal with it, and the ‘Boss’ clobbers me accordingly. Oh, once every seemingly million years or so I might have a small victory, like repairing the Refrigerator Door the other day after it fell off! A simple matter once I discovered the Hinge Mounts were in fact adjustable – took up the play, now the damn thing works better the it was when we got it (though still looks like hell). How would I know to do this though? How would anyone? Serviceability: Is everyone else on the planet good at Plumbing Repairs? 18 years of fighting with this old flea trap and the plumbing is in worse shape then ever. But still I try (over and over) because my better half demands it…. So be it. When we got her Land Space Shuttle (SUV) several years ago, I assumed it came with a Maintenance Contract in addition to the Extended Service Contract. It did apparently for a year, now expired. She seems to feel I can now magically service this behemoth – no I cannot! I know my limitations and that thing IS it! So far the most advanced MC I’ve owned as been this older Victory V92SC, my first EFI equipped bike. It’s been initially touch and go but never the less still remaining serviceable, and that at least is good enough for me. Reliability: Goes without saying – who wants to break down every darn time they go out?! Sure been there / done that more times then I care to remember. It doesn’t matter that I NOW pay a (what I’d call anyways) small fortune for Full AAA coverage and a what I’d say a reasonable cost (pay as you go) Cell Phone strictly purchased in case we break down again and need to call for help. It’s a scary world out there getting more dangerous by the moment. Say no more… Form/Function: With so MUCH Harley-Bashing / Flaming going on out there (at least online in OTHER forums) dare I mention I’m probably the only dude on the planet that rides H-D’s (still) because I think they are reasonably good motorcycles, and they still physically suit me like no other so far. My best suited bike in form and function still remains the H-D Low-Rider series, 1977 thru 2005 (and on…). I’m on my 5/6th now of the model, must be a reason beyond supposed profiling, posturing and mere aesthetics?! But I like variety (yes, just as I’m still drawn to ‘exotic’ women – i.e., NOT quite dead yet!) and so I got a Victory now, hoping for a late model Indian Scout / Power-Plus 100-105ci someday, keep looking at the Hyosung GV650 Cruiser (wishing for a bigger model) and will definitely someday have an older (standard) 87-99 Kawasaki VN1500 A1-A13 Vulcan someday, because they come close to following that formula I like as no others except H-D do. Nuff’ said. ![]() LRG ![]() __________________ ![]() ![]() Last edited by LowRiderGhost; 09-05-2008 at 07:25 AM. |
