| Spider Interwebby Thingy | Glendale to Yarnell to Prescott to Grand Canyon Back in June I took Nora on a trip for her birthday weekend. The plan was to go to the shrine in Yarnell, and then stay the night in Prescott. The next night we would stay in Jerome and visit the Grand Canyon, and then the next day ride back through Prescott and head home. I don't have time to load all the photos at once, but here are a few. We were supposed to leave Friday after work, but we were tired and so we didn't leave until Saturday morning. A day behind, but we would just make it up on the last day. Luckily the price has gone down a little bit, but here is what gas was costing me at the pump the morning we left. ![]() This was the first stop; it is on 60, but I can't remember the name of the place. People who ride out there a lot will recognize it because of the windmill and propane tank in front. Nora: ![]() ![]() ![]() This is Arizona, so it gets hot. After some rest and drinks, we loaded back up and we were on our way to Wickenburg. ![]() More in a bit.

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | The first stop was the shrine in Yarnell. When we pulled up there was another couple on a motorcycle that were chatting with one of the volunteer workers and getting ready to leave. We exchanged hellos and then we started up the mountain to take the tour. ![]() Here is the front of the shrine, ![]() The rest of the photos are the trip up the mountain. The shrine is a tribute to family, and Jesus' journey to the crucifix. The fellow below can be seen holding tools; he has returned from work and picked up the child on his way in. He is a symbol of hard work and family. ![]() Jesus in prayer: ![]() Once you begin walking up the mountain, all of the crosses start: ![]() ![]()

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | The stone steps progress up the mountain, and each cross tells a little more about the journey. It is pretty cool. ![]() ![]() ![]() There goes Nora, disappearing behing the rocks. I think she was going to try and roll that boulder on me. ![]()

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | Yarnell is Northwest of Wickenburg. Take 60 to 89 North, and when you get into town, slow way down. A little ways down the main drag is a neighborhood road called Shrine Road. Turn left on it, and at the end you will find the Shrine. Once I caught up with Nora, I turned around and took this one: ![]() Nora, pretending she knows how to read: ![]() The crosses all had script on them; I liked this one: ![]() ![]() Luckily, we showed up before a rowdy family of like 500 kids did, and so the place was reverent. ![]()

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | Where are all the trees? ![]() On the way up to the top, where the crucifixion is: ![]() ![]() And back down the other side. You have to watch your step... falling down the steps would probably be painful, and getting to the hospital on a motorcycle out in the middle of the desert would suck... ![]() ![]()

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | On the other side on the way down the trip talks about Christ removed from the cross. ![]() ![]() ![]() Back at the bottom of the mountain, the tomb: ![]() ![]() The roads going north from Yarnell are nice and twisty, but it is worth the stop to check out the shrine.

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | Some people bungee jump, some people play with knives, some people spin the bread instead of using the twist tie, and then others park their mobile homes underneath precariously perched roadrunner-esque boulders. ![]() To each, his own adrenaline rush. Quote:
No kidding! It should never cost over 20 bucks to put gas in a sportbike. ![]()

| Spider Interwebby Thingy | We were at the shrine for about an hour or so, and then we got back on the bike and rode up the mountain to Prescott. My wife loves old hotels (I do too) and so we stayed at one... the name escapes me right now. This was taken from inside the room, which had a small living room, two baths, two televisions, walk through closet, etc ![]() This is the walkway to the dining area. The hotel is on a grade, hence the steps. ![]() This is the common area, the bar, the dining area, check-in are all to the right. ![]() This is the stairwell: ![]() In the hallway. Lots of carpet, furniture and molding. ![]()
